Where the Wild Things Are

So Friday night was family movie night at our house and I picked up the move Where the Wild Things Are I remembered reading the book when I was little and figured the movie had to be just as good before watching I received some comments on how horrible the movie was and that is was scary which made me think that maybe I don't want my kids watching this movie. Well anyways I decided we would try it and if there were any scary parts we would just turn it off. For those of you that don't know what this movie is about here is the description from imdb.com

"An adolescent named Max has an active imagination, and he will throw fits if others don't go along with what he wants. Max - following an incident with Claire (his sister) and her friends, and following a tantrum which he throws as a result of his Mother paying more attention to her boyfriend than to him - runs away from home. Wearing his wolf costume at the time, Max not only runs away physically, but runs toward a world in his imagination. This world, an ocean away, is inhabited by large wild beasts, including one named Carol who is much like Max himself in temperament. Instead of eating Max like they normally would with creatures of his type, the wild things befriend Max after he proclaims himself a king who can magically solve all their problems"

I felt like the movie was good, the costumes were awesome. The parts that kinda made me think about letting my 5 year old watch it was when the Wild Things got angry but other than that I didn't think it was scary, maybe a little slow starting but good. My 5 year old did start crying at the end so she must have understood what the movie was about.
