Black Cat Dippers with Pumpkin Pie Dip
Sorry camera still not working, this is from Taste of Home

  • 1 can (15 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Black paste food coloring
  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • Roll out each pie pastry directly on an ungreased baking sheet to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 2-in. cat-shaped cookie cutter, leaving at least 1 in. between cutouts. Remove excess dough and reroll scraps if desired. Beat the egg, milk and food coloring; brush over cutouts. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over cutouts.
  • Bake at 400° for 6-7 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Remove to wire racks to cool. Serve with pumpkin dip.

Halloween Books to Read #5

SKELETON HICCUPS
Skeleton Hiccups
"Skeletons are a little less scary when they have the hiccups. This particular skeleton can't seem to shake them--not in the shower (nice fuzzy bat slippers!), not while brushing his teeth (woops! there goes the bottom jaw!), not while polishing his bones, carving a pumpkin, raking leaves, or even when playing baseball with his friend Ghost. Ghost, instead of Boo-ing! away his buddy's hiccups right away as we might expect, advises Skeleton to hold his breath and eat some sugar and drink water upside down. When he finally does Boo! it still doesn't work. But when Ghost finds a mirror and holds it up to Skeleton's face, he sees his reflection and screams in fright! The hiccups jump away, hic, hic, hic. While it's novel to see a skeleton eating sugar, drinking water, showering, etc., it may be tricky to find the right audience for this unusual picture book that's more about hiccups than Halloween. (Ages 4 to 8)" from Amazon

My Thoughts-First of all let me start off by saying I really hate skeletons, I think they are horrible decorations, I have never been able to understand why people would buy kids clothes with skulls and things on them I just in no way find that adorable. Anyways as far as the book goes my kids loved it. Every page has hic, hic, hic on it so I would read the words and the kids would make the hiccup sounds it was really funny and this is such a cute book.

Halloween Books to Read #4

A VERY BRAVE WITCH
A Very Brave Witch (Paula Wiseman Books)

"Kindergarten-Grade 2–A friendly young witch describes what she likes most about Halloween. She explains that although most of her kind …are afraid of humans, she has done research and concluded that people are not that bad. She plans to visit them this Halloween night as they trick a tree. After boarding her broom, she zooms in a circle, becomes dizzy, and crashes near some trick-or-treaters. She soon discovers that a brave witch and a brave human girl dressed as a witch are not so very different. As the book ends, the two new friends share a moonlit broomstick ride. The chatty text appears in dialogue balloons. Done in black ink and watercolor, the cartoon artwork captures the holiday's spirit with crisp fall colors and amusing details. Busy witches decorate their creepy-looking mansion by hanging skeletons, un-caging bats, and sprinkling spiders out the windows. In the Sub-Basement Costume Unit, a seamstress is hard at work sewing a monster paw; costumes line the walls (Frankenstein, a space creature, etc.); and politician masks share space with a jar full of eyeballs. Both children–one green and one not–are appealing, and the witch's orange cat, with its expressive features, adds to the fun. A humorous, not-scary-at-all read-aloud." from Amazon

My Thoughts: CUTE CUTE CUTE

    Halloween Books to Read #3

    SCAREDY-CAT, SPLAT!
    Scaredy-Cat, Splat! (Splat the Cat)

"It's Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately he's just too much of a scaredy-cat. He's afraid of a little spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that he tips over his jack-o'-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a small, black, furry creature with a big pumpkin head. Whooooo can it be?" from Amazon

MY THOUGHTS: This is such a cute book, when I seen it I knew I had to get it for my little Lyndze Mae she loves cats and then we read it and all I can say is it's just such a cute little story.

We're Off To Find The Witch's House

We're Off to Find the Witch's House

"PreS-Gr. 2. Decked out in Halloween costumes, four little friends venture down the street to "the witch's house," deliciously scared by other young trick-or-treaters along the way. When they arrive at their destination, they hear a screech and see the witch herself. Evidently a friendly little witch (and probably a costumed classmate), she ushers them into her home for a Halloween party. Former kindergarten teacher Mr. Krieb shows that he knows a thing or two about holding children's attention in this rhyming, rhythmic text with call-and-response sections. With a multiracial cast of characters, Alley's child-friendly drawings glow with watercolor washes and brim with details that expand the narrative and add to the fun. Both verse and pictures will appeal to young children who like to be reassured as well as scared at Halloween." from Amazon

MY THOUGHTS:  Once again the girls loved this book as well. It might frighten some children that are easily scared, the illustrations are great. Another great Halloween book.

    Halloween Books To Read #1

When it gets close to Holidays or Seasons I like to read books to the girls according to what Holiday or Season it might happen to be.

The Bumpy Little Pumpkin by Margery Cuyler

    The Bumpy Little Pumpkin
"It's Halloween, and the three siblings are looking for pumpkins to carve into jack-o'-lanterns. Little Nell's selection is deemed too small and ugly by her sisters. Not to be deterred, Little Nell enlists the help of Reindeer, Hare, and Bear Cub and creates a special jack-o'-lantern that can proudly take its place on the porch. As BIG Mama says, Jack-o'-lanterns come in all shapes and sizes!, a line that can be reassuringly applied to children as well. Reminiscent of Charlie Brown's devotion to his scraggly Christmas tree, Little Nell's story is just as satisfying, stressing the worth of a child's handiwork and the value of creating. The colorful cartoons provide the perfect complement." from Amazon

My thoughts-My girls LOVED this book. We also have the snowman one with the same characters. It's such a cute book about this little tiny girl in this family of giants really. She finds a little bumpy pumpkin and has her animal friends help her turn it into a jack-o-lantern. If you are looking for a good pumpkin book to read to your kids I would highly recommend this one.

    No time

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a few days my baby girl got sick and she has been so cranky. She has double ear infections and a sinus infection this is day 5 on the medicine and I am pretty sure it hasn't done anything, thinking about taking her back to the doctor soon.

Tomorrow we have Halloween pictures scheduled at a park in a nearby town, we are hoping to get some good fall colors I am just hoping Jaedyn will be good for the pictures. Here's to hoping right.

After the pictures I was thinking about taking the kids to a corn maze and getting some fresh apple cider YUM YUM.

Anyways hopefully I can start posting things again on Monday like normal.

    4. Set up the ice skating rink
    5. One last yard work day before Winter sets in.
